Using BigCommerce on WordPress to enable multi-region experiences

BigCommerce for WordPress 3.2.0 is a major update to the existing BigCommerce WordPress plug-in.

This update represents some of the most significant new features and enhancements made since the launch of the BigCommerce for WordPress plugin in December 2018, including the ability to create multi-region shopping experiences on a single or multiple WordPress sites.

With BigCommerce for WordPress, merchants using WordPress to power their online stores have access to more sophisticated eCommerce technology that allows them to scale their eCommerce business without sacrificing everything already built on WordPress.

In previous versions of the plugin, merchants could link a single BigCommerce store to multiple WordPress instances. With 3.2.0, merchants can serve multiple regional versions of their product catalogue from a single WordPress site.

Jimmy Duvall, chief product officer at BigCommerce says, “Our commerce APIs and deep integration with WordPress give merchants the ability to create engaging WordPress-driven website experiences, make changes quickly and truly differentiate their brand, all while retaining the speed and lower overall maintenance of our SaaS platform.

“In just six months, we’ve made hundreds of changes across 28 plugin releases, all of which culminated in our ability to support complex business use cases, including multi-brand, multi-region sites, through BigCommerce for WordPress.”

“With BigCommerce for WordPress, our merchants have the freedom to build the experiences they want to build without compromise, using the tools they already know and love. It’s this commitment to constant improvement that helps keep our merchants at the forefront of eCommerce innovation.”

With the release of multi-site functionality in 3.2.0, merchants can enable a range of complex experiences, including:

Multi-Region.

The addition of multi-region capabilities gives merchants with a global footprint the ability to tailor product merchandising to the specific regions in which they sell. This includes enabling the ability to translate product details into the local language and display prices in the local currency.

B2B.

With BigCommerce for WordPress 3.2.0, merchants can accommodate B2B-specific experiences, whether that includes maintaining separate wholesale and retail sites or offering customers a “vendor portal” that provides customized product catalogue and pricing for each vendor.

Custom Content-First Product Pages.

The latest version also includes the ability to decouple core product details like title, SKU, image, description, price and add to cart button from the product detail page. They can now be placed anywhere via shortcodes or the Gutenberg editor in page or posts.

We’ll be showcasing some of these features at this week’s Online Retailer NZ event.  If you’d like to learn more about BigCommerce and how it can elevate your eCommerce business feel free to come have a chat with us.
